Eric, his green iPod and the Feast of Fools...

Eric, his green iPod and the Feast of Fools...

Gosh, we're just so tickled pink when we get letters from our listeners like this one...

"listening to FEAST OF FOOLS! I've been listening for a few months now and think you all have a wonderful Podcast going - it's always refreshing to hear intelligent, funny, sensitive, and salacious people filtering up through the media din. After all, the world needs all of them it can get, right? Needless to say, when I download the latest edition of your show everyday, I know that my subway ride into Manhattan will be the better for it.

I wish you all only the best and continued success and look forward to the day when I can say, "FEAST OF FOOLS? Oh, I've been listening to them forever! But, I have to say they were better back then, you know, back when they were still really hungry - before all the money and success went to their heads and spoiled it all. Let me tell ya, listening to FEAST OF FOOLS was much more fun back before V*mar took off on her own with that shady guy she met through 'Prison Pals' who became her "manager", back before Marc failed with his sad little spin-off travel show on E! called, "IF I WERE CHRIS NOTH, WOULD I BE TENDING BAR HERE?", and especially back before Fausto put a rider in his contract that stipulated he would only arrive to and leave from the studio while leaning out of a whirring helicopter and waving to his crowds of adoring fans, just like Diana Ross! Ahhhh...back before all that crazy Hollywood star madness - that's when FEAST OF FOOLS was the shit, muthafucker!"

Keep up the good work!

Eric

Don't worry Eric, I won't be the crazy diva the Beyonce is and force my handlers to pick out the green m&m from my candy dish. I'll eat them all.

IRONY MAN - TALK TO THE 'TACHE

IRONY MAN - TALK TO THE 'TACHE

Apart from a very brief appearance in an Avengers television commercial for milk the Invincible Iron Man seems to have mostly missed out wearing the famous milk mo'.

Time for the red and gold superhero to power up, swig some moo juice and proudly join the likes of: Angel, Buffy, Batman, the Fantastic Four, Pikachu, Spider-Man and Spider-Girl, SpongeBob Squarepants, Shrek, Mario, Superman, The Hulk, the Powerpuff Girls, Yoda, Cosmo and Wanda, Lara Croft and Jackie Chan.

Go on Tony, it's good for you!

After all, can it be mere coincidence that the rallying cry 'Avengers Assemble!" has the initials "A.A".

I drink not...

I was looking at the fancy helmet packaging on the Iron Man Movie Ultimate 2 Disc DVD
set when my thoughts, for no reason that I can readily explain, turned towards dairy products. A bit of removable white paint, a quick photoshoot and a few PS filters later....

Chasing the Sun at Oceanside

Chasing the Sun at Oceanside

Driving home last weekend from San Diego, we decided to take the scenic route. Got off the 5 at Del Mar and drove up the coast on PCH. Good call.

Beautiful drive, relaxing, no hurry. Not at that point, anyway.

Around Oceanside, my wife commented on the fact the sun was getting low -- and I was surprised -- I was hoping to make San Clemente before sunset.

Found a place to park on the street, fed the meter, and started grabbing gear out of my backpack, and stuffing it into my Captain Kangaroo pockets, making a mental checklist as I went.

Camera -- check.
Empty SD card -- check.
Charged battery -- check.
Filters -- check.
Cable release -- check.
Nerdy headlamp -- check.

I'm walking down the steps toward the beach looking for a place to set up, get about halfway down -- no man's land -- and then it hits me:

Filter holder -- $&#@!

The sun's too low, I'll never make it if I wanna try to shoot the sun dropping behind the building on the pier. No worries. Handheld it is.

I'm setting up the tripod, a homeless guy walks up to me and says to me, I kid you not, "its gonna be a cool sunset. Got your filters?" I smile and nod, and level the camera as the sun is moving at the speed of light, and promptly drop the 3-stop reverse grad into the wet sand as I take it out of its case.

I curse loudly, scaring the poor homeless guy away, pick up the filter, blow off the big chunks of wet sand, wipe off the rest with the microfiber cloth, and pray it isn't scratched. Then hands shaking, sweating like a Wildebeest in heat, I hold the filter over the lens and try to align it with the horizon, take a meter reading, and blast off some shots, playing with different compositions as I go.

This is probably my favorite from this set up -- stark, minimal, colorful. I really like the red light on the wet sand.

The sun disappears beneath the horizon -- no green flash, and I head north toward the pier -- and I hear this thump, thump, thump. Thump, thump, thump. I get closer, and I can make out a tune under the thump, thump, thump. It's a live Mariachi band playing at the amphitheater adjacent to the beach. Ai! Ai! Ai!

I wait for the blue hour and the lights to come on along the pier -- some light mist rolls in, making condensation on my filter and lens, and as I chimp, my shots look as if the lens is draped with gauze. As fast as I wipe it off, it returns.

Darkness sets in, I trudge back to the car, unload everything, and we come to the conclusion it doesn't make much sense to drive up PCH since its dark -- so we head back to 5, which is surprisingly light, and stop in Irvine for a bite to eat.

Good weekend. And better yet, it didn't cost us a cent, paid for from the proceeds of the Rubber Stamping classes my wife taught in Poway.

#1 SWAMPED!!

#1 SWAMPED!!

Better Viewed Large!!

As the title suggests, this morning was classic dodgem cars with the waves. The waves were big and there was a high tide.

The beach sand was on a slope going down towards were the waves were rolling up and freak sets would come in and you would literally have to have one eye in the camera and the other making sure you weren't about to be bolled over by a big set.

When i took this, i waited for the waves to start the rush out on this slope and then i ran down in the shallows, planted my tripod, hoped that my set up was all good, take a shot, turn around and bolt back up the beach! It was kinda fun until a few waves DID actually get me unprepared. I had to hold my camera and tripod as high as i could above my head, and i'd be drenched from my shirt down hoping i wouldn't fall over.

Passes by were seen laughing at me and a couple of folks even stopped in anticipation of seeing me get completely wiped out! All in though, i got some great images, i have a few more i will process later when i get time.

My new endeavor to try and catch the image "in camera" and not rely on much PP as i have done with this one, is certainly rife with challenges on a morning like this!

I hope you all like it as i risked life and limb to get these ha-ha!!

Thanks for all the kind critique and comments everyone, i really do appreciate it greatly.
